Man Eats 2 Tbs of Coconut Oil Twice a Day for 60 Days and This Happens to His Brain!

Dr. Mary Newport, based on her personal experience, says that ketone bodies, which are formed when the body digests coconut oil, are an alternative brain fuel, thus preventing and treating Alzheimer’s. However, this is not scientifically proven, but as a theory it is worth to try it.

Her personal story is with her husband, Steve, who suffered from progressive dementia for 5 years in his mid-50s. After performed MRI, it was clinically diagnosed that he suffered from Alzeimer’s.

Here is her story, quoting: “Many days, often for several days in a row, he was in a fog; couldn’t find a spoon or remember how to get water out of the refrigerator… One day I would ask if a certain call came that I was expecting and he would say ‘No.’ Two days later he would remember the message from so-and-so from a couple of days earlier and what they said.”

Her husband used all the prescribed medicines to alleviate his condition, but with numerous side effects, such as: depression, inability to perform even the simplest tasks, losing weight, and forgetfulness. However, he was in a good body shape as he continued his garage work and gardening.

Dr. Newport realized that her husband has no short memory, but the received information was stored in the brain which he was giving to her after certain period of time. So, she concluded that there is something in the diet which might help and improve his condition. She started researching on medium chain triglycerides or ketone bodies, the studies confirmed that they were able to treat and prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Furthermore, experts stated that medium chain triglycerides are potential treatment for diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, drug resistant epilepsy, and Huntington’s disease.

She gave an explanation about ketone bodies, quoting: “Ketone bodies may help the brain recover after a loss of oxygen in newborns through adults, may help the heart recover after an acute attack, and may shrink cancerous tumors. Children with drug-resistant epilepsy sometimes respond to an extremely low carbohydrate ketogenic diet.”

Provided that glucose is not consumed, the cells in the body will try an alternative fuel such as ketone bodies. However, they appear only when the body is starved for a couple of days, or when a low-carbohydrate diet is used.

Dr. Newport additional states, quoting: “In Alzheimer’s disease, the neurons in certain areas of the brain are unable to take in glucose due to insulin resistance, and slowly die off… if these cells had access to ketone bodies, they could potentially stay alive and continue to function.”

Hence, she introduced in his diet on a daily basis, three tablespoons of coconut oil, twice a day, thus securing constant circulation of ketone bodies in the body system. After two months of coconut oil use, the results were visible, he became happier, communicative, joking, working without distraction and the tremor was reduced. When a year passed, Steve became a different person, he could recognize all his friends and relatives, easily participating in conversations, his facial expressions became lively, and the most importing thing he became more happy, active and full of life.

In the end, Dr. Newport says, quoting:  “For now, we are very pleased with where he is at and should coconut oil stop or slow down the progress of his disease, it will be worth every drop that he takes.”
