Vinegar and baking soda mixed with essential oils are excellent natural cleansers and preserve your health.


  • ¾ cup baking soda
  • ½ cup vinegar
  • 10 drops of essential oils of orange and lemon (or flavor of your choice)


Mix all ingredients in a plastic bucket (you will see a foamy reaction) and pour the mixture into the toilet bowl. Let act at least 10 minutes before rinsing the toilet. You will see your toilet shining and essential oils will give a good smell.

How it works?

Vinegar is used as a cleaner because of its main component, acetic acid. This substance has corrosive properties and as such is a powerful disinfectant. Vinegar contributes, moreover, to neutralize odors, thanks to its fragrance absorbing effect, and is not harmful to the environment.

Baking soda contains carbonic acid, which acts as a mild bactericide. It has many virtues, so it has many uses for housekeeping, for personal hygiene and for cooking. Do not fear to use regularly because it is not toxic and is biodegradable.

Other uses of baking soda

Baking soda is par excellence environmentally friendly product. It can cover many aspects of your life, from your personal hygiene to maintenance of your home or your garden. Here are a few uses.

  • Toothpaste or natural mouthwash

Some people are prone to lesions on the tongue, lips or gums. To prevent or eradicate them, dilute a teaspoon of baking soda in a half cup of warm water and make a mouthwash. Then rinse with cold water.

Brushing your teeth with baking soda guarantees the whiteness of your teeth. Put just a little baking soda powder on your toothbrush and wash your teeth, or just mix it with your regular toothpaste. Warning: limit use of this toothpaste to once a week because it has abrasive effects to the enamel.

  • Improves hair shampoo

To clean hair gels and varnish residues, add a teaspoon of baking soda to your shampoo and massage 3 to 5 minutes. Do it once a week for a silkier hair. However, baking soda is not recommended for people who are dying their hair as it may bleach the hair.

Use it to clean your combs, hairbrushes and makeup brushes, by dipping them in warm water combined with baking soda, for a few hours.

  • Natural Deodorant

Baking soda neutralizes odors by acting directly on the acidity (pH) of substances that emit them. Just put some baking soda powder on area you want the treat.

To mitigate the cigarette odors, sprinkle baking soda into your ashtray. It also helps to eliminate odors in your fridge and cupboards.

  • Sparkling dishes

Baking soda is a great for your dishes and protects your hands against fungal growth. Brighten your glasses by wiping them with baking soda on a damp cloth, then rinse.

To clean your utensils, pour 2 or 3 teaspoons of baking soda in a big bowl and add hot water. Just put the utensil and leave them for 20 minutes and than wash.

To properly degrease plastic containers, soak them in a liter of water mixed with 2 tablespoons of baking soda, then scrub with a sponge and rinse.

  • Treats the pool water

Your pool towels and bathrobes tend to keep the smell of chlorine. To make it disappear, add 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the laundry or directly in the washing machine.

Baking soda can also treat the pool water. It softens the pH and helps to make it more pure.

  • Removes stubborn stains on your clothes

Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda powder to your usual amount of detergent, to enhance its effectiveness.

It can also be used as a stain remover. In this case, put water in a sprinkler and add baking soda and stir until completely dissolved. Then spray the stains on your clothes and wash.

Other uses of apple cider vinegar

Apart from its culinary use, apple cider vinegar has many of the same virtues as baking soda. It is, moreover, an effective ingredient for beauty care and household products. Apple cider vinegar can be used to compose a natural cleansing and toning lotion for the skin and its particular scent helps repel mosquitoes and other insects.
